March 29/18

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed Spring Break and were able to spend some family time together.  We had a great time with our grandparents today, showing them some of the activities we have done to learn all about our great country!  Anyone who didn't have a grandparent of their own, shared with a friend and they had a fantastic time!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Please sign up for our upcoming field trip to the Maple Ridge Library on April 10th, via the parent portal
*Please sign up to drive for this field trip if you are able, we are currently short 5 spaces
*The library forms were picked up today.  If you were unable to return the form in time, please take it directly to the Maple Ridge Library by April 6th.  Students will not be able to take out a library book on the field trip day if they haven't handed in the form.  Also, please send in your child's library card on the 10th if they already have one.
*Your child will have brought his/her sock Easter bunny and Easter poems today so you can enjoy those together over the weekend.  They can now stay at home :)
*Thank you to Vienna's mom for baking Canadian flag cookies for our Grandparent's Day and Miranda for helping out at the station (parents from Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani's class)

Happy Easter!

March 8/18

Hi Everyone,

Spring break is just around the corner and everyone is excited about the family time they will be sharing.  We have had a fun and busy week in Division 8.  Our 'Jumprope for Heart' kick off assembly was today and Mr. Roberts came in to teach your children some cartooning.  They did a great job applying what he taught them.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Club Red Celebration is tomorrow.  Please wear red and send in any finished calendars if you have not already done so
*Your children have all received a 'Jumprope for Heart' envelope.  They can use these to collect pledges in person or use the online option which is on the front of the envelope.  Our 'Jumprope' event will be on Tuesday, April 10th and pledges will be due the following week.
*Just a reminder to check your planners each day as your children often write reminders in them and there are sometimes forms that need to be returned in a short time frame
*A reminder that Grandparents day is coming up on Thursday, March 29th (afternoon).  If your child does not have grandparents that are available then any adult that is important to them is welcome :)

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful spring break!

March 1/18

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend.  Thank you to everyone for signing up for a conference.  It has been great to watch to students share there work in the hallway and discussing the growth they have made when we all meet.

Updates/Reminders/Thankyous

*Club Red Calendars are due, please send them in (with each square initialled) either during your child's conference or on Monday.  Thank you!
*Thank you to parents who have sent in items for our PAC fundraiser.  Our theme is:  Spa Day so if you anyone would like to contribute by sending in money or an item to add to the basket that would be much appreciated
*Special dates in March are now on the calendar on this blog, please note that 'Grandparents Day' is on Thursday, March 29th (the day before Good Friday).  A grandparent or other special family member are welcome to attend (times to follow)
*100 Day was a huge success, the variety of wearable 100 day projects was impressive!

Enjoy the sunshine, everyone!

Amanda Roberts

PS.  I know many of you have seen these 100 day projects during the conference visit but they make me smile every time I look at them so I thought you might enjoy seeing them again (or for parents who couldn't make it to the school)

February 23, 2018

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have all had the opportunity to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather today.  It really is a winter wonderland out there!  We have had a busy week and enjoyed presentations by both 'The Maple Man' and a local author, Linda Grace Smith, who wrote a book we are focusing on as part of our compassion unit.  Ask your children about how they made/enjoyed their maple toffee treat and the steps involved in making maple syrup.  They can also tell you about the book 'One Too Many' which was written by our visiting author (see link):  http://www.pepperminttoast.com/one-too-many/

Reminders/Updates/Thank you's

*Tuesday, February 27th will be the 100th day of school.  Just a reminder that we will be having a 100 day sing a long (please practice songs in your child's 'Poetry and More' duotang with them) and  a parade for all primary students where we will wear our 100!  These can be made with items you already have at home and should be something your child can wear all day (or easily slip off for play times outside).  Some suggestions are:  a necklace with 100 beads or fruit loops, a t-shirt with 100 pompoms, dots or google eyes, a hat with 100 stickers or happy face drawings.  Be creative and have fun!
*Wednesday, February 28th is also national anti-bullying day.  Students are encouraged to wear pink (or red if you don't have pink) to show their support.  Again, please do not feel compelled to go and buy something new.
*Conferences are coming up this week!  Students will be dismissed at 11:00 on Thursday and will not attend school on Friday while the conferences take place.  Please sign up for a meeting time if you have not already done so.  We will be using the same format as last term:  you will arrive at the conference time that you signed up for and meet with your child in the hallway to share his/her work/progress.  The next 15 minutes, we will all meet to celebrate your child's growth and set goals for the upcoming term.  Thank you for being on time so that we can keep the current schedule.
*The Scholastic Book Fair will be happening in the library next week.  Please see the blue flyer that was sent home with specific times that it will be open
*Club RED has almost come to an end, please send in calendars on Thursday, March 1st or bring them in when you come for your child's conference.  Please remember to initial each day that your child has read.  Our hope is that the month of daily reading will help develop a habit that will be continued through the rest of your child's school years (and beyond).  Thank you for your support with this.
*Our book swap on Friday was a huge success!  Thank you to everyone who sent in a book (and in many cases multiple books) which allowed everyone in the class the opportunity to select a book to take home!
*Thank you to all of the parent drivers who took us skating and helped tie skates.  It was amazing to see the progress the children have made (and Isabella was able to teach me how to stop...I'm working on it!)
*Thank you to everyone for your feedback regarding our plans to take the students to Grouse.  The response was very positive and we have booked for May 25th (more information to follow).   Parent volunteers will be welcome.  Thank you!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, everyone!
