January 27, 2017

Hi Everyone,

We had a fun and busy week in Division 8!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*we had a terrific walking field trip to Save-On-Foods on Wednesday and learned a lot about the 4 food groups and how many servings we should be having from each one
*a big thank you to Wyatt, Chloe, Collette and Neveah's moms for volunteering to accompany us on this outing
*we are continuing to study nutrition so if you have any 'food' flyers, please send them in for an upcoming activity
*we will be starting our spelling program on Monday.  You will be receiving an important letter in your child's planner which explains the program we will be using.  We realize that the words on the list may appear quite easy for some children but we will be doing a variety of activities around these (adding prefixes, suffices, defining, looking for word patterns etc.) and will also have surprise 'Bonus' words each week that follow the same pattern
*We will be starting 'Club Red' on Wednesday.  Students will be expected to read every day for the month of February and parents will need to sign each day as it is completed.  There will be a big school wide celebration at the beginning of March and there will be an opportunity for prizes to be won for those who participate.  There is also the possibility of winning a class pizza party if all of the calendars are signed/coloured/returned at the end of the month.
*twin day was a big success today, we had some twins, triplets and even one set of quadruplets!
*I will be posting a class list on the blog next Friday so that your child will have ample time to complete them for our class party. I will also include the details of that celebration.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all getting around safely out there, it is very icy!  The students have been staying inside for safety reasons but hopefully the ice will be melted enough by Monday to give everyone the opportunity to go and enjoy some fresh air and exercise.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*our field trip to Save-On-Foods is coming up this Wednesday.  At this point I have 1 confirmed parent.  If anyone else is able to join us, that would be great.  We will be leaving right away so it is really important that everyone is on time.  If the ice has not melted we will have to walk along the street the entire way as our short cut will not be safe.  Our tour begins at 9:00 so we will need to allow the full half hour to get there.
*Thank you to Chloe's mom for painting all of the children's hands/feet for a project we are working on (that is why your children's feet are purple today :))  Also, a big thank you to Chloe's mom for volunteering to walk with us on Wednesday.
*we now have enough cardboard (thank you for sending that in) but we are moving on to our nutrition unit and would like to ask you to save/send in all of your food flyers.  Thank you!  Also, if anyone works in the food industry and would like to come and talk to the class about it, that would be great.
*Twin Day is also next week (Friday, Jan. 27th).  This is optional but if your child is interested they can dress up the same as a friend (or 2 or 3 or....).  It can be as simple as wearing the same colour top and pants, hat etc. or wearing their hair the same way.
*I also received a flyer about an upcoming event at the public library- Saturday, January 28 11:00-2:00 will be Family Literacy Day.  This is a free event and if you would like more information you can see the flyer on our door or write a note in your child's planner and I will send you a copy of the flyer.
*If anyone has material scraps at their home that you are willing to donate, please send them in on Monday.  Thank you! :)
Save the date:  We have now confirmed a third opportunity to go skating on the afternoon March 9th and we are going to see a play at the ACT theater on April 20th.  You will receive portal announcements on both of these events closer to the date.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

January 13, 2017

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all have exciting plans for the weekend!  It looks like this might be the last icy/snowy one for awhile as the rain is supposed to set in next week.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Monday is a Professional Development Day for teachers so there will be no school for students
*an order form went home for hotdog day (small, blue form).  This will take place on January 27th and hot dogs need to be preordered.  If your child misplaced his/her form there are extras available in the classroom by the outside door.
*Please send in Memory Book Money ($10) if you have not already done so.  If you are not sure if you've paid or not, please write a note in your child's planner and I will let you know.
*we will be going on a walking field trip on January 25th to Save-On-Foods.  At this point,  I have one parent confirmed and one tentative parent so if anyone else is available to help supervise that would be much appreciated.
*please 'save the date' on April 20th as we will be going to the Act Theater to see 'The Lion King'.  Our very own Makena will be performing and we are all excited about seeing her on stage (more information to follow).  Parent drivers will be needed for this field trip.  Thanks in advance!
*Thank you to all of the parents who have been sending in cereal boxes.  We can still use a few more if you have them.
*just a reminder as the weather is changing again that we will be outside every day and that students should have appropriate clothing and a spare set of clothes (they can leave these at the school).  An extra pair of socks in their back packs is also a good idea.
*we are working on a special project in the library with Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani and Mrs. Neufeld where we are focusing on 'Courage'.  Please take a moment to discuss with your children a time when you noticed them using their courage.

Thank you!  Have a great weekend, everyone!

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone enjoyed a fantastic holiday with your families.  It sure has been nice having some snow to play in!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*the January calendar is now posted on this blog under 'Monthly Calendar'
*we will be going on this field trip on Wednesday, January 25th from 9:00 to 10:00.  We will leave the school shortly after the bell, please see me if you are available to volunteer for this.  I would like to have at least 2 other adults to accompany us.  Thank you!
*for our field trip to Save-On-Foods we do not need permission as you have already given that via the walking field trip form that you filled out at the beginning of the year
*I have a January Scholastic that needs to be assembled and sent home next week.  Is there a parent who would be willing to do that for us?  Please see me on Monday or write a note in your child's planner if you are able and I will send home the booklets/stapler.  Thank you!
*we are collecting cereal boxes for an art project.  If you could flatten them and cut them into 2 that would be very helpful.  Thanks so much!
*Fairview PAC is putting on a bottle drive on Saturday, Jan. 14th.  Each of your children will have brought home a form looking for volunteers.  If you are unable to volunteer but have bottles that you would like to donate, please drop them by the school.

Thank you and have a great weekend!
