February 23/22

 Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed the Family Day weekend, we certainly lucked out with the weather the last couple of days.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Next week is a short week due to conferences (early dismissal Thursday, no school Friday) but we will still start our spelling as it is a review week.  I will introduce half of the wordlist on Monday, February 28th but there will be no quiz that week.  The following Monday students will add the other half of the list to their planners and the quiz and spelling sheet will be due that Friday (March 11/22). This week combines all of the word patterns that we have studied up to this date.

*We will be celebrating the hundredth day of school next Tuesday, March 1st.  Students are encouraged to wear their hundred day projects (necklace, hat, t-shirt etc.)

*The sign up for the Zoom conferences is now available via the parent portal.  Please take time to celebrate your child's work with them before the conference and that they need to attend the Zoom meeting with you.  Each conference time is blocked off for 15 minutes but will take closer to 10 minutes.  Looking forward to seeing you all on March 3rd or 4th.  I will be sending a separate Thursday link and Friday link to avoid the issue that occurred last conference time.  Your child's work will come home the Wednesday before conferences.

*Please send in your child's calendar from Club Red by March 3rd so that we can celebrate their olympic medal accomplishment!

*Please pay for the memory book/online field trips via the parent portal if you have not already done so.  Thank you!

Our book fair preview day is Friday, February 25th.  Your child may bring home a 'wishlist' that day.  Our shopping day is Wednesday, March 2/22.  If you would like your child buy something in person, please send money in a clearly marked container/envelope.  We are strongly encouraging everyone to shop online this year as we are not unable to provide extra adult support due to Covid protocols.

Thursday 10 February 2022

 Hi Everyone,

So far, February has been a fun, busy month.  Flashlight reading was a huge success on Wednesday and we also really enjoyed our 'Book Tasting' on Tuesday.  This was a great opportunity for everyone to learn about different genre's of books and we have now ordered our five favourites for the classroom.  The gym is currently set up for the winter olympics and this week, every class got the opportunity to enjoy Fairview's version of the bobsled, curling and the torch relay.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*We are beginning a Research project in the library.  Please send in earbuds/headphones if you have not already done so.  Thank you!

*Thank you for supporting 'Club Red' by reading with your child each day, initialing the calendar square and having your child colour it.  Next Wednesday's special reading activity at school is 'Read like an athlete'. Your child can wear their jersey to school and can also bring a favourite sport's book if they have one.

*Thank you for helping your child prepare for their 'Great Canadian'. It has been great to see their enthusiasm and confidence as they share the poster about themselves.

*We have now sent out a parent portal payment request in the amount of $15.  The break down of this is $10 for the memory book we are creating in class and $5 for our 'Joyful Learning' opportunities (virtual guests/field trips).  Thank you in advance for your online payment via the parent portal.

Looking ahead, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Tuesday, March 1st.  Students are encouraged to wear their 100 day project on that day (examples: hat with 100 stickers, necklace with 100 beads, t-shirt with 100 balloons etc.). Be creative and have fun! :)

February 3/22

 Hi Everyone,

I hope you and your families are all well.  I wanted to thank you all for your continued support in keeping your children home when they are feeling unwell.  I really do appreciate your ongoing diligence. Thanks so much!

*A reminder that tomorrow we will be joining in a Global Day of Play.  Students are welcome to bring one non-electronic game/toy from home (this is optional)

*Monday your child brought home a notice explaining that February is 'Club Red' and we are Reading Each Day.  This year is an olympic focus and we are all aiming for Gold level reading!  Please see the calendar on the back of the notice, this is where you will sign and your child will colour as they complete each day of reading.  It is also where you will find the weekly special events days.  I have asked the class to put their calendar on the fridge (with your permission) to help ensure they remember to read/complete the calendar each day.

*Next Wednesday, February 9th will be 'Flashlight Reading'. Please have your child bring a flashlight and favourite book to enjoy that day

*We have now sent out a parent portal payment request in the amount of $15.  The break down of this is $10 for the memory book we are creating in class and $5 for our 'Joyful Learning' opportunities (virtual guests/field trips).  Thank you in advance for your online payment via the parent portal.
