Happy Halloween Everyone!

We have had an action packed week in Division 6 and we will be ending the week with our class party this afternoon.  A big thank you to everyone who sent snacks to share (Karman, Dharma, Novah Jacob, Criss, Priya, Jaxon and Jordyn).  Your contribution is much appreciated and will be enjoyed later today.

Reminders

*Book Fair is now set up in the library! (If you would like to have your child purchase books you can send money to school with him/her)
*A skating notice will be coming home next week so please remember to check the front pouch of your child's planner.  Thank you!
*Please send inside shoes for your child if you have not already done so.
*We will be adding to our book bags next week.  Students will have the books for 2-3 weeks and should practice nightly.  They will continue to bring home a new book each night (one that they choose).

Have a wonderful time trick or treating tonight!

October 24 Update

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying the day off today.  Luckily the rain seems to be holding off so far.

Comfort Kits

Some of you will have received your child's comfort kits from last year.  These were sent home so that you can update the information and change out any snacks that have passed their due date.  If you need a new information sheet, Mrs. Kirves has put them on the parent portal so that you can print one off from there.  Just a reminder to everyone that each child should have a comfort kit at school in case of an emergency.

Supplies

Most students have all of their supplies now but some are still outstanding.  I will be giving these students a checklist this week so they can check off what is missing and bring it home as a reminder.  Also, please send in a pair of inside shoes for your children if you have not already done so.  This helps to keep our school clean and safe (floors aren't wet and therefore less slippery.

Save the Date

After Halloween your child will be bringing home a permission slip to go skating on the afternoon of Monday, November 17th .  We will need drivers and volunteers to help with this field trip.  If you do not skate please feel welcome to join us anyway, we can also use the extra help getting skates on everyone!  Please also note that you must have a driver's abstract/volunteer form on file in the office in order to drive.  This is a very simple process and no longer requires a trip to the DMV as they will fax a copy of your driving record to Fairview.  Also, please remember that you need to provide a booster seat for your child as we have a very limited supply at the school.

Halloween Party

This week we will be having our Halloween party!  Thanks in advance to these students and their families for sending snacks:  Karman (veggie plate), Dharma (cheese/crackers or sandwich quarters), Jacob (sweet treat), Jaxon, (popcorn, chips or pretzels)  and Jordyn (sweet treat).

Please note that students are welcome to wear their costumes but should be prepared to go outside at recess and lunch.  I recommend that students wear their costume over a set of clothes so they can easily slide them off to go out and play. Thanks so much!

October 17, 2014

Hi Everyone,

Division 6 has made great progress this past week and are now understanding/following the class routines.  Well done, everyone!

Reminders

**Your children may have told you that we are creating an artistic spider web using pastels and water coloured paints.  If you have not already done so, please send pastels and a paint set in as we plan on using these throughout the year.

**Please send in planner and memory book money if you have not already done so ($7.50 and $5.00).  You also have the option of paying for the planner on the portal if you wish.   https://parents.sd42.ca/

**We have family reading each Friday morning from 8:30-8:45.  Please come and join us if you are available! (younger siblings are also welcome)

**If you haven't already signed up to send snacks for one of our class parties this year, please come by and do this next week.  If you are unable to come to the school, please write a note in your child's planner letting me know which party you would like to send food for (the options are Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day and End of School).  If I don't hear from you then I will slot you into one of the available spaces.  You only need to send treats to one party and I will send you a reminder beforehand.

**Entertainment books are due (you can send in the money or the book itself).  Let's be the first class to hand everything in! :)

Routines

**Your child will be bringing home his/her 'Poetry and More' duotang today.  Please read the poems/songs with your child over the weekend and return the book on Monday.

**Some of your children will also have brought home a book bag (the rest will receive their book once their group has read with me, everyone will have one by midweek).  At this point it has just one book inside which will be the one they will be presenting to the class with their group so extra practice at home will help increase their confidence.  In the upcoming weeks more books will be added to this bag which will be used in class and at home for extra practice.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

We have had a busy weekend in Division 6.  Our class was responsible for promoting the food hamper donations and once again our food drive was a big success!  We also participated in the Terry Fox Run and helped raise money for another great cause.  Thank you everyone for supporting our efforts and a big thank you to the parents who came out and ran with us today.

On Thursday your children brought home an autumn tree to enjoy over the holidays.  Please ask your son or daughter to tell you about the story 'The Giving Tree' which we labeled the tree as a reminder to give to others.

Also, your child should have a 'Poetry and More' duotang in their back pack.  There is an outline (on the first page) of how this will be used this year.  Please return them to school each Monday.

A few reminders...

If you have not already done so, please send in:

*inside shoes (these will help keep our school clean and the gym safe)
*any missing supplies (felts, paints, pastels, scissors, pencil boxes etc.)
(If you need a new list please let me know and I will send one home)
*planner and/or memory book money ($7.50 for planners, $5.00 for memory books)
*Student Identification forms (it is important for the office to receive this ASAP)

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

October 4, 2014

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

We are off to a good start in Division 6.  We are working on building a classroom community and many new friendships are already developing.  We are also learning classroom routines and responsibilities and the day to day improvements in these areas are fantastic.  Keep up the great work, everyone!

Supplies

The majority of supplies have been brought in but some of the 'specialty' items are still outstanding at this point, particularly the water colour paint set, pastels and the USB stick.  I have some art lessons planned that will require the first two items soon and the USB stick will be needed in the upcoming weeks as we begin to publish some of our writing.

Terry Fox Run

We are running our annual 'Terry Fox Run' this upcoming Friday. For your child to participate on the course you will need to give permission for 'Walking Fieldtrips' via the parent portal.  If your child has not been registered via the portal (or a paper copy which I can send home if you write a note in your child's planner requesting one) then he/she will participate on the school grounds by walking around the fields. The run will be happening rain or shine and you are welcome to join us.  Parent volunteers are also needed so if you are able to do this, please let me know.  Thank you!

Food Bank

I also want to let you know that Division 6 has taken on the very important job of collecting food for the Friends in Need Foodbank.  We have already made reminder posters and delivered boxes and this week we will be making daily announcements over the school PA system.  The boxes will be picked up this Friday and will be distributed to people in need.  We hope that this helps everyone have something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

I do want to remind everyone that I do not check the email that corresponds to this Blog.  If you have any feedback, questions or comments please feel free to contact me via my work email:  Amanda_Roberts@sd42.ca

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
