November 23, 2013

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you are all having a wonderful weekend, enjoying the sunshine!  I will be sending home a December calendar at the beginning of the month but wanted to give you a heads up that I have booked a skating outing for our class on Thursday, December 12th (skating from 1-2).  We will need parent drivers for this field trip so if you could please 'save the date' for this it would be much appreciated.  A permission slip will be coming home this week.

I also wanted to let you know that my class is going to be responsible, once again, for managing the toy drive for the Christmas Hamper.  A notice will be coming home on Monday regarding this but I just wanted to let you know that your children are going to be taking on a very important role in helping other children in our community have a great Christmas.  I hope that by doing this the students will feel a sense of empowerment that even at their age they can make a positive difference in someone's life.

I also wanted to remind you that the three way conference sheet is posted outside the hallway door.  Please sign up for a time if you have not already done so.

Thank you,

Amanda Roberts

Conference Sign Up Sheet

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that the conference sign up sheet is now posted outside our classroom door in the hallway.  Each conference will be 30 minutes long.  The first 15 minutes will be you looking at your child's work with him/her in the hallway.  The second 15 minutes will be you, your child and the teacher(s) meeting in the classroom.  Please enter the school via the front door that day so that the conferences are not interrupted.

Thanks so much,

Amanda Roberts

Conferencing

Hi Everyone,

This is just an additional reminder that December 5th is an allocated day for three way conferencing.  I will be posting a schedule for you to select a time soon.  Please note that your child will also be a part of the conference and student goals will be set collaboratively (with input from the teacher, parents and student).  Please watch this blog for further information.

Thank you,

Amanda Roberts

November 17

Thank you everyone for sending in your forms/payment by the deadline last week.  The tickets for the ACT theater have been booked.

We are presently wrapping up the main portion of our Canada Unit (but learning about our country will be ongoing).  We will now be focusing on learning about owls/flight.  We kicked this off last week with a fantastic presentation by OWL and even had the opportunity to see a live barred owl.  We are all looking forward to dissecting our owl pellets this week and will let you know what we find.

Please continue to refer to the November notice/calendar that I sent home previously and check here each week for updates.  There will be further information here regarding three way conferences soon.

Thank you,

Amanda Roberts

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are having a restful weekend after a busy week of Halloween fun.  We were busy in Division 6, creating Halloween crafts, playing Halloween math games and developing our creative writing skills.

I sent home the students Halloween paintings (for those who wanted to use them for a decoration over Halloween).  If you could please send them back to school, I will be adding these to the memory books the students will bring home at the end of the school year (a reminder if you haven't sent the $6 for this, please do so.  Thank you!)

We had our first music session on Friday with Liam's mom.  She came in and taught the students a couple of songs and reviewed some beginner notes.  We really appreciate her taking the time out of her day to come and do this.  Thanks so much!

A big thank you also goes to the students' families who sent snacks for the party.  They were enjoyed by all.

***Important Reminder:  We have a student in our class who has a life threatening peanut/nut allergy.  Many students are bringing Halloween treats to school.  Please ensure that they only bring 'nut free' snacks.  Thanks so much!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone and I will look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Now that I have most of the photo permission slips in, I will be adding photos to my weekly blog.  Please see 1) Our Halloween door 2) Students hard at work using their Halloween painting as the setting for their story 3) Hallway reading on pajama day 4) Sing a long with Mrs. Brekkaas
