May 24/18

Hi Everyone,

We are all very excited about our field trip to Grouse tomorrow.  We hope the weather holds! :)

This will be a brief post as you all received a lengthy email yesterday regarding our field trip tomorrow.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*thank you to our parent volunteers who are joining us for our Grouse trip tomorrow! (Mrs. Dhembi, Mrs. Krenbrink, Mrs. Kriel, Mrs. MacMhuirich and Mrs. Koshlay)  Please remember to bring a back pack to help carry lunches.  Clearly labeled, bagged lunches only, please.
*our next 'Mystery Bag' trade in will be next Wednesday.  Please ensure that your child has their book bag so that they can join in the fun :)  There is a lot of enthusiasm around drawing names for trading and the books themselves seem to be a big hit!
*a second school supply form was sent home yesterday. This was because I didn't check the forms before passing them out the first time so some students ended up with the wrong grade.  Sorry for the confusion.  Mrs. Evans has asked us to notify you that the  lists for each grade are now posted on the Fairview website in the 'Parents' section and can be printed if needed.
*a parent portal announcement will be sent to you tomorrow about our upcoming field trip to the recycling depot on June 8th.  Parent drivers will be needed for this.
*next week I will put up a permission form for our field trip to Nevaeh's family farm on June 14th.
*our bake sale to raise money for our school buddy bench is next Thursday, May 31st.  Baked goods and volunteers are needed.  Please see info pasted below from last week's blog for specific details.  Thank you all for your donations of baked goods and for sending in money so that your child can also purchase a treat.  Please email me at:  amanda_roberts@sd42.ca if you are able to volunteer at recess and/or lunch.

*we are hoping to host a bake sale on Thursday, May 31st.  As part of our compassion unit, we are trying to raise money for a 'buddy bench'.  This is a place where students can go if they can't find anyone to play with so that they can connect with other students who are in the same situation.  We would really appreciate if everyone could send in 1-2 dozen treats for us to sell on that day.  We also need parent volunteers to help set up at 9:30 and sell during recess-(from 9:50-10:25) and lunch 11:45-12:30)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all have a fantastic (extra) long weekend!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*tomorrow is our 'Walk for Water' event!  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and is wearing comfortable walking shoes and sunscreen.  I highly recommend that everyone bring a water bottle so that we can stop in for a quick drink before our second lap.
****All donations sent on/before this day will be given to Haiti to provide clean water****

*we have booked a compost visit with Dan from Ridge Meadows recycling on Monday, June 4th and a field trip to the recycling depot on Friday, June 8th (9:15 start-drivers will be needed, please)-a notice will be sent home via the parent portal for this.  There is no cost for either activity.

*please check student planners tomorrow for an important information sheet regarding supplies for next year.

*we have now booked a time to visit Nevaeh's family farm.  We will be doing this in the morning of June 14th and drivers will be needed.  Please 'save the date' and I will send out a portal announcement in the next couple of weeks

*also, Fun Day will be Friday, June 22nd

*thank you for sending in the mystery bags on Wednesday.  Most students were able to draw a name for a new book bag.  If your child forgot theirs, please send them in asap so that they can get a new set of books

*our Grouse Mountain field trip is coming up next week.  All students must be signed up/paid for by May 23rd so that we can make alternate arrangements for those not attending.  Thank you!

*a reminder to please pay the $10 for your child's memory book if you have not already done so, this can be done via the parent portal or by cash/cheque

*an information package regarding our 'Scientist of the Day' was sent home a couple of weeks ago.  Please ensure that your child has the opportunity to practice his/her experiment and comes to school ready to present on their assigned day.  Thank you! We are currently sharing our 'lab coat' with Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani's class and are looking for a second coat.  If anyone is able to donate one to the class or has suggestions on where we can purchase one at a low cost that would be great.

*a reminder that there is no school Monday (Victoria Day) and no school for students on Tuesday (Non-instructional Day).

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

May 10/18

Hi Everyone,

Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms!  I hope you all enjoy your weekend and are properly spoiled :)!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's
*the leadership group has requested that we collect 4L milk jugs (not 2 litre as previously requested).  They will just be filled up half way for the primary students.  Please rinse the jugs well with soapy water before sending them in. Thank you!
*Our 'Walk for Water' is next Friday, May 18th.  Students should have comfortable walking shoes and be dressed for the weather.  Donations (loonies or twoonies are great) will be accepted up until this date.  Thank you! Money collected will be donated to Haiti and we will be watching some informational videos provided by Mrs. Valouche so that students understand how fortunate we are to have fresh water just by turning on the tap! :)
*thank you to Dyllan's mom for organizing our Scholastic book orders this year;  the last one went out earlier this week and is due Friday, May 25th
*the 'Mystery Bags' will be exchanged next Wednesday, please ensure that your child has their bag so that they can make a trade
*the PAC has added 2 treat days this month-May 15th and 16th.  All treats will be $1-$2
*Memory book and Grouse Mountain field trip money can be paid online or sent to school (cash or cheque made out to Fairview Elementary)
*Week 12 is a review week in spelling so we will continue next week and our final spelling quiz will be tomorrow!
*just a reminder that I coach running club on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students who are not picked up at bell time will meet you at the office as I need to get to practice.
*Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to come on our Grouse Mountain field trip:  Mrs. Dhembi, Mrs. Krenbrink, Mrs. McMhuirich, Mrs. Kriel and Mrs. Musinovic.  We now have our maximum number of volunteers.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

May 3/18

Hi Everyone,
I sent out a rather lengthy email earlier this week (see below) so this blog entry will be brief.  The students received their new book bags today and they are VERY excited.  As I explained to them, we are very fortunate to be the first people to use these books and ask that they are only taken out of the bag one at a time and used in a dry, clean area so that they can be enjoyed for years to come.  We will be rotating the 'Mystery Bags' every 2 weeks.  Thank you for your support with this! :)

*Please note:  We now have enough cardboard boxes, thank you for your help
*Memory book and Grouse Mountain field trip money can be paid online or sent to school (cash or cheque made out to Fairview Elementary)
*Week 12 is a review week in spelling so we will continue next week and our final spelling quiz will be next Friday, May 11/18.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
