Hi Everyone!

We have had a busy and exciting week in Division 8!  We were fortunate enough to have Leyton Schnellert co-teach a lesson in our class on Tuesday.  He is an 'educator of educators' and several teachers from the district came in to observe.  Short video clips of the lesson were taken and will be used for teaching purposes with other educators.  Your children were all very engaged and came up with thoughtful answers to Mr. Schnellert's questions.  He was very impressed! We were focusing on a story about compassion called 'The Invisible Boy' if you would like to talk to your child about it.

Today we were fortunate enough to have 'Dan' come in and talk to us about local wild animals.  We now all know what to do if we encounter a cougar or bear.  Dan even brought in a stuffed cougar and a bear skin that we all had the opportunity to touch!

Reminders/Updates/Thank you's

*There seems to be some confusion regarding the 'lice letter' that came home with all students in the school this week.  Many people signed/returned it but the letter indicated to only return it if you did NOT want your child checked.  I completely understand your confusion and I noticed that nobody had checked 'No' so I assume you all want your children checked.  If this is NOT the case, please email me and let me know.  Thank you!
*on February 1st we will be starting 'Club Red' (information package to follow). Our first special school wide read will be 'Flashlight Reading'.  Students should bring a flashlight from home for this.  I just wanted to give you a 'heads up' now in case you need to purchase/find a flashlight :)
*There is no school for students tomorrow (Professional Development Day for teachers)
*Please ensure that you check your child's backpack for spelling homework on Wednesday  and/or Thursday nights and offer help as needed.  Thank you!
*Just a reminder that the book in your child's book bag that has a post-it in it is for their Reader's Workshop presentation and that they should practice the pages they are presenting at night

Hi Everyone,

This week we started our spelling program and you will have received an outline of our weekly plan. Some of you may have had your child's duotang sent home on Wednesday and/or Thursday.  This is because they were unable to finish it during class time and I felt they would benefit from some extra help at home (there were several student's needing this help this week but that will decrease as their comfort level increases). This will be the weekly procedure and I ask that you please keep the spelling book in the planner bag once finished with it as I we will be using them on Thursdays.  Students who are still not finished can take the spelling book home on Thursday night and return it on Friday. A fun way that your child can practice his/her spelling words is to go onto 'Spelling City' (on this site).  Please note:  The 'green' word lists are for people with 'purple' paper.  We will have our 5 word quiz on Fridays. Thank you for your help/support with this.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Scholastic is due by Thursday, Jan. 25th for those of you who are interested
*Thank you to Dyllan's mom for organizing the Scholastic magazines for us each month
*Please help your child complete his/her home work in the poetry and more duotang this weekend
*Save-the-Date:  February 20th we will be skating in the afternoon (there will be a parent portal announcement closer to-drivers will be needed, please)
*Tuesday, February 27th will be our 100th day of school-I am letting you know well in advance that our primary students will all be 'Wearing 100' on that day.  This means your child can make a necklace or bracelet out of 100 beads, fruit loops etc. or they can draw 100 of something on a t-shirt or hat.  Whatever you and your child come up with is great, just keep in mind that they will be wearing it for at least part of the day and we will be having a 100 Day Parade with the other primary
classes to enjoy everyone's creations.
*next week we will have our spelling quiz on Thursday due to the Professional Development Day on Friday (no school for students, Jan. 26, 2018)

I will put the other February dates on the blog calendar soon.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

 Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday.  It sounds like the students really enjoyed all of the family time.

We typically try to keep January as a quieter month to allow the students the opportunity to gently slide back into the expectations and pace of school life so there aren't many 'extra' activities such as field trips or visitors to the classroom.  Please see the calendar on this blog for an outline of what is happening at the class/school level.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*the PAC has kindly offered to provide free hot chocolate to all of the students on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 16th.  Please send a labeled mug with your child as they will not be providing these. Thank you!
*I will be coaching the girls basketball team on Tuesdays and Fridays and will need to leave almost immediately after the bell in order to meet up with the team.  If you are late picking your child up on those days I will be sending them to sit at the office to wait for you so that they are properly supervised.
*if you have not already done so, please send in earbuds for your child (dollar store ones are fine)
*also, please send in inside shoes and a change of clothes to be kept at the school

Have a great weekend, everyone!
