June 2/22

 Hi Everyone,

June has arrived and so has the sunshine!  It is so nice to be warm again! We will continue to spend a lot of time outside so please make sure your child comes to school prepared for the weather.  A waterbottle is also a great idea but you only need to send one as we have a bottle filler right across the hall.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*your child brought home a story necklace on Wednesday.  We did this activity with our District Literacy teacher, Mrs. Penner.  For homework, your child should retell the story, using the necklace as a guide to prompt their memory

*thank you to Sienna's mom for washing some manipulatives for me, I have many, many more bins if anyone else is willing/able to help :). Thank you!

*please check your homes for classroom books and ensure they are returned each day. Thank you!

*library books should not be coming home, so if your child's is there, please return it to the school.  Mrs. Holmes will be doing inventory very soon

*I sent home the extra bag/duotangs today as we will not be needing them for the remainder of the year.  I will occasionally send home items that we no longer need to simplify things the last couple of days of school.  If your child is going to be away during that time, please let me know so I can ensure that they get all of their belongings

*our last Scholastic book order went home today.  A big thank you to Hailee's mom who has been organizing this for us all year

*a big thank you to our PAC who will be leading our 'Fun Day' on June 17th.  They are also giving every student and staff member a free frozen yogurt, yum!

Have a great weekend,

May 26/22

 Hi Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed the May long weekend.  It was certainly nice to have some sunshine!  It is hard to believe that next week will be heading into June.  Time is just flying by!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*as we head into June, I will be looking for volunteers who are willing to take home a bin or two of manipulatives to wash in preparation for the upcoming school year.  Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help out with this.  Dishsoap and warm water work best.

*as we head into the warmer weather, just a reminder to make sure your child has a water bottle along with sunscreen and a hat when it required.  We enjoy a lot of time outside each school day.

*we will need some smooth stones (around the length of your child's pinky finger, or a little smaller) for an upcoming craft.  If you could please keep your eyes out for one (or more in case anyone has trouble finding one) that would be great.  Please label it with a post-it or tape with your child's name on it and send it in sometime next week

*thank you to the PAC for providing hot lunch for purchase again today.  They will also be giving all students/staff a free frozen yogurt on the Fun Day they organized this year on June 17th

*thank you for checking the front pouch of your child's planner, I can see they have largely been emptied now

*a reminder that the book with the yellow post-it is the one that your child needs to practice for Reader's Workshop.  It is in their planner bag

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thursday 12 May 2022

 Hi Everyone,

I hope you and your loved ones are all well and that everyone enjoyed the extra day together yesterday.  It felt very strange having a ProD day on Wednesday, I keep thinking that today is Monday!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*tomorrow is our last spelling quiz of the year.  The purple duotangs will be sent home and can now stay at home

*please check your child's front pocket of their planner for the class photo.  They did not provide a holder this year so we have placed them there for safe keeping

*our 'Scientist of the Day' starts on Monday.  Please help your child find a simple experiment that they can present independently (I will, of course help if it is needed), collect necessary supplies and practice before their day

*the primary cross country race is on Monday.  I will be leaving at 2:10 again that day.  Mrs. Passaglia and Mrs. Sirovyak will be dismissing the class.

*please send in your child's cross country permission form by tomorrow if they have been attending practices and plan to join us for the race.  There is no practice today after school or next Thursday after school

Have a great weekend, everyone!

April 14/22

 Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoy a fantastic long weekend.  I will look forward to hearing all about Easter from your children when they return to school on Tuesday.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*A big welcome to our new student, Cohen.  Prior to his arrival, we talked about how it is difficult to be the new person in a class, particularly part way into the school year.  Your children have really stepped up to welcome him to our class.  Well done, Division 10!

*Today your child will be bringing home their sock bunny and a small, wrapped package.  It is not food! It is a little bit of therapuddy they can play with and I've asked them not to open it until they are at home and ask you for permission

*cross country started yesterday and we had a huge turnout!  Practices will be Tuesdays/Thursdays and I will need to leave immediately after the bell.  As I mentioned last week, as a safety measure, I will send your child to the office to be picked up if no one has arrived at bell time.

*welcome back to Mrs. Gobeil (EA) and goodbye to Miss McIntire (EA filling in for Mrs. G).

*welcome to Mrs. Daisy (EA) who will also be working in our class at times.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

*please pay for your child's memory book/online field trips via the parent portal if you have not already done so.

*please send in headphones/earbud in a labeled bag. Thank you!

*cross country permission forms went home yesterday with students who were interested.  Practices are Tuesdays/Thursdays after school and I am one of the coaches so I will need to leave the classroom right after the bell.  If your child is not picked up on time on those days, I will send them to the office so that they have a safe place to stay until you arrive

*thank you to Hailey's mom for organizing our Scholastic Book Club order

*Please see information below for anyone who is interested in participating in Fairview's yearbook cover contest

 Hi Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed your Spring Break!  It sounds like everyone enjoyed their holiday.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Please send in headphones/earbuds if you have not already done so.  Your child will need these each year and they will be returned at the end of the year so that they can be reused.  We were fortunate enough to get 4 new Ipads before the break and I have added some great apps that require individual sound.

*Please pay for the memory book online via the parent portal if you have not already done so.  Thank you!

*Reminder that it is hot lunch tomorrow.  Please front load your child if they have not ordered so that no one is surprised/disappointed.

*I sent home another one of your child's stories today (ask them about the pre-writing activity we did).  Please read this with your child and edit as needed.

*Our Canada unit is coming to an end soon and we will be moving onto Easter and then focusing on 'The Ocean' for our next theme

Thank you,

*Please pay for the memory book/online field trips via the parent portal if you have not already done so.  Thank you!

I hope you all had a good winter break and were able to enjoy some family time and stay healthy.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*We are now heading into our study of Canada.  One of the activities we will be doing will be to create a 'Great Canadian' poster about ourselves.  More information will be coming home with the poster background, once it is made but for now, I just wanted to let you know that some photos of your child at different ages will be used if at all possible

*There is a lot of confusing information circulating around Covid and when it is safe for people to return to school.  I hope that the following links will help alleviate some of the confusion.

*Thank you for continuing the daily health check and informing the school if/when your child is absent due to illness

*Tomorrow is Black Excellence Day, Fairview leadership students are encouraging everyone to wear black in recognition of this important day

*Your child is getting a winter poem for this round of Reader's Workshop.  A copy will come home in your child's planner bag this week or early next week.  Please help them practice for their group presentation.

Thank you!
