Home Learning Week 2

Hi Everyone,

I hope you and your loved ones are well. It was great to see so many smiling faces during our Zoom meetings last week.  I’ve missed you guys!

Our district is trying to support students/families any way we can.  If your family is struggling to get food on the table, please reach out to me at amanda_roberts@sd42ca and I will connect you with the district program.  We all need to lift each other up during this challenging time. Our Fairview support team would also like to help.  I will contact people next week to see who would like to receive some EA time for their child.

By Friday,  I would like students to email me 1) Their list of 10 things that make them happy (Monday’s literacy)   2) One piece of assigned math or a brief explanation of what they are focusing on if they are working online. 3) Please have your ‘toe drawing’ ready for our Thursday morning meeting.  Each child (who would like to) can show their drawing and explain what it is…it should be a good laugh.  I will also prepare a’toe’ masterpiece for this meeting.

*Having your child write this email (or at least part of it) would be great keyboarding practice if you have the time.

*Please ensure that your child has a pencil, paper and hard surface to work on for our Zoom meeting on Monday.  The anchor charts we are using are available under the Printable Worksheets tab under Week 2 for anyone who is unable to join one of the meetings.

I have added Prodigy to our Home Learning Links.  This a site for math practice (Some students from Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani’s class recommend it). If you would like to access this resource, you can register your child via the link for free.  Our class code is: A02C6F.If you sign in using this code then I can see what your child has completed and offer any recommendations/feedback as needed)

I have also added this website to add another option to access materials that are printable.

Please note: I am following the guidelines set out by our District Superintendant, Sylvia Russel.  The activities I am offering are ‘learning opportunities’.  Please feel free to use my weekly suggestions as you see fit.

'Kindergarten-Grade 3 planning will focus on language and literacy as well as numeracy from the provincial curriculum; an average of five to seven hours of learning opportunities per student per week'.  So, that would equal approximately 1- 1.5 hours/day.

Home Learning:  Week # 2
April 14-17

*Please note: Students are encouraged to read 15 minutes/day in addition to the activities outlined below. RAZ kids is a great resource for this.

Easter Monday!!  Have a great day, everyone!

JUST FOR FUN!!!!

Thank you to 1.Noah,  2.Natalie and 3. Emma for contributing this week’s jokes.  If any of you have jokes to share, please email them to me and I will include a couple each week in our upcoming Blog posts

1.If you have 15 banana's in one hand and 13 apples in the other hand, what do you have?
2.Why was the Easter bunny so upset?
3.Joke: Where do polar bears keep their money?
.
(see end of post for answers)

This week’s tongue twister (Try to say it 3x fast-time it and see what your record is)
Fluffy the Fox follows the flowers.

Directed Drawing:  How to draw baby Yoda

This week’s challenge is…
The Toe Artist Challenge...You need some crayons or felts and a piece of 8½ x 11 inch piece of paper (the regular size paper you use at school to draw). If you don’t have the correct blank paper, cut a piece of paper to the proper size. Place a crayon or felt between your toes (socks on or off, it’s up to you) then begin your masterpiece. You can change colors anytime but that is the only time you can use your hands. No pencils, felts, tape etc. can be used and you must sign your picture using a crayon/felt with your toes...good luck! I will post a few of these masterpieces on our blog so if you would like yours to be ‘in the draw’, please indicate that in the email.

Answer:
1.Very big hands!
2.He was having a bad hare day!!!! :)
3.In a snow bank.
