April 26/18

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine...it feels like summer out there!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Reminder:  Monday, April 30 is a professional development day-there is no school for students
*Thank you to everyone who has now paid for the memory books.  If you have not already done so, please send in cash/cheque or pay via the parent portal.  Thank you!
*I have updated the calendar to include special dates that we already know about in May
*Just a reminder that spelling books will be brought home if work has not been completed in class.  At this point, about 3/4 of the students are able to complete their work during class time which is great!
*Now that the weather has started to change, many students may want to wear sandals to school.  Just a reminder that we are often active during the day so runners and socks should be in backpacks if sandals/flip flops are worn.  I also recommend that you put sunscreen on your child and send in a water bottle.
*Thank you to Averyelle and Logan's families for sending in craft supplies.  The students are really enjoying making artistic masterpieces with these items!
*Please note that the Grouse Mountain field trip is now on the parent portal.  It will be a great field trip!
*Mystery book bags will be coming home soon!  Please enjoy reading these books with your child and return the bag each day.  Thank you!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

April 19/18

Hi Everyone,

It sure is nice to see some sunshine!  Hopefully it holds for the weekend :)

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Please send in $10.00 or pay online for your child's memory book.  I haven't heard from any parents that you do not want to participate in this so I will order a class set of all photos, collages etc.  This book makes a great keepsake and the kids love them :)

*Our 'Earth Day' celebration will be tomorrow.  Dan from recycling will be coming in to make paper with us and do a 'recycling relay' in the gym.  We will also be doing a 'reuse' challenge (pictures to follow).  Thank you to everyone who sent in newspaper for this activity.

*fortunately, the weather seems to be changing but we do want to inform parents that your children will be sent out rain or shine for the remainder of the year.  Our district has adopted a 'west coast' recess policy which means students need to be prepared to go outside under any conditions (barring a safety issue such as lightning).  Our class noticed last week that the kindergarten classes go outside for breaks every single day and if they can do it...so can we!  Please send in an extra change of clothes for your children in case of accidents.  Thank you!

*There are still a number of students who have not handed in the pink form for our Health Talk next week.  Your child will only be able to participate with permission.

*All Jumprope for Heart pledge forms are due tomorrow.  I have 2 parent volunteers from other divisions who are willing to count money/determine prize packages but it would be great to get a few more volunteers who can come in for a couple of hours next week

*Jersey Day donations will also be accepted tomorrow (a loonie or twoonie would be great)

*Thank you to Averyelle's mom for sending in some craft supplies.  The children are loving all of the fancy stickers and paper.  If anyone else is doing 'spring cleaning' at the moment, please keep in mind that gently used books, craft supplies and building materials are always welcome.   Thank you!

*Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani and I will be meeting next week to prepare the portal announcement for our field trip to Grouse on May 25.  A limited number of parent volunteers (due to bus limitations) will be welcome.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

April 12, 2018

Hi Everyone,

We are all settled back into our class routines after the holidays.  Everyone is very excited about our 'Jumprope for Heart' Event which involves everyone in the school.  We had a great field trip to the public library this week.  We were very fortunate to win the contest that allowed us to go and meet Margriet Ruurs and hear about many of her great stories and learn about where she gets her ideas from.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Next Friday, April 20th, we will be celebrating 'Earth Day' with the other primary classes.  Please ensure that your child wears clothing that is appropriate for the weather.  Some of our activities will be outside, rain or shine!
*I am coaching running club every Tuesday and Thursday until the first week of June.  I will be sending students who are not picked up at bell time to the office so that I can get changed and meet my running club members on time.  This way I know they are safe until you are available to pick them up
*Thank you to our parent drivers for taking us to/from the library and for helping to supervise students
*Treat Days are April 17/18
*Jersey Day is coming up on Thursday, April 19th-a twoonie is welcome as a donation for 'Kid's Sport' on that day and everyone is encouraged to wear a team jersey of their choice
*Last day for Jumprope for Heart $
*Everyone has received a pink notice regarding an upcoming 'Sexual Health and Personal Safety' talk coming up on Thursday, April 26th.  If you want your child to attend, please sign/return the form by Wednesday, April 25th.  Students will only be able to attend with a signed permission form.
*Monday, April 23rd will be class picture day

Have a great weekend, everyone!

April 5. 2018

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I have updated the calendar on this blog to include important dates for the month of April.  I have given some instructions where needed regarding what students need to bring/wear for each event.  Please take a few moments to mark your calendars with this information.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Our field trip is next Tuesday and I still have 3 students who are not signed up to go and we are short 5 spaces in vehicles.  Please let me know if you are able to help us out, you will need to have a driver's abstract in the office.  Thank you!  Please send your child's library card (if they already had one) on that day so they can borrow a book
*We also have the 'Jumprope for Heart' event next week (on April 12th-please see calendar for further instructions regarding event/donations)
*The district literacy team has given us over 100 new books (which we are currently processing before they come home).  These are for making high interest, multilevel book bags for home reading. We will be sending these home in a couple of weeks and will be looking for parent feedback.
*Looking ahead...we have booked an all day field trip to Grouse Mountain for May 25/18.  More information to follow closer to this date.

Thank you,

Amanda Roberts

March 29/18

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed Spring Break and were able to spend some family time together.  We had a great time with our grandparents today, showing them some of the activities we have done to learn all about our great country!  Anyone who didn't have a grandparent of their own, shared with a friend and they had a fantastic time!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Please sign up for our upcoming field trip to the Maple Ridge Library on April 10th, via the parent portal
*Please sign up to drive for this field trip if you are able, we are currently short 5 spaces
*The library forms were picked up today.  If you were unable to return the form in time, please take it directly to the Maple Ridge Library by April 6th.  Students will not be able to take out a library book on the field trip day if they haven't handed in the form.  Also, please send in your child's library card on the 10th if they already have one.
*Your child will have brought his/her sock Easter bunny and Easter poems today so you can enjoy those together over the weekend.  They can now stay at home :)
*Thank you to Vienna's mom for baking Canadian flag cookies for our Grandparent's Day and Miranda for helping out at the station (parents from Mrs. Rowledge-Toscani's class)

Happy Easter!

March 8/18

Hi Everyone,

Spring break is just around the corner and everyone is excited about the family time they will be sharing.  We have had a fun and busy week in Division 8.  Our 'Jumprope for Heart' kick off assembly was today and Mr. Roberts came in to teach your children some cartooning.  They did a great job applying what he taught them.

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*Club Red Celebration is tomorrow.  Please wear red and send in any finished calendars if you have not already done so
*Your children have all received a 'Jumprope for Heart' envelope.  They can use these to collect pledges in person or use the online option which is on the front of the envelope.  Our 'Jumprope' event will be on Tuesday, April 10th and pledges will be due the following week.
*Just a reminder to check your planners each day as your children often write reminders in them and there are sometimes forms that need to be returned in a short time frame
*A reminder that Grandparents day is coming up on Thursday, March 29th (afternoon).  If your child does not have grandparents that are available then any adult that is important to them is welcome :)

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful spring break!

March 1/18

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend.  Thank you to everyone for signing up for a conference.  It has been great to watch to students share there work in the hallway and discussing the growth they have made when we all meet.

Updates/Reminders/Thankyous

*Club Red Calendars are due, please send them in (with each square initialled) either during your child's conference or on Monday.  Thank you!
*Thank you to parents who have sent in items for our PAC fundraiser.  Our theme is:  Spa Day so if you anyone would like to contribute by sending in money or an item to add to the basket that would be much appreciated
*Special dates in March are now on the calendar on this blog, please note that 'Grandparents Day' is on Thursday, March 29th (the day before Good Friday).  A grandparent or other special family member are welcome to attend (times to follow)
*100 Day was a huge success, the variety of wearable 100 day projects was impressive!

Enjoy the sunshine, everyone!

Amanda Roberts

PS.  I know many of you have seen these 100 day projects during the conference visit but they make me smile every time I look at them so I thought you might enjoy seeing them again (or for parents who couldn't make it to the school)
