September 30, 2016

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have all been getting out to enjoy the sunshine.  We have had a busy week at Fairview which included the Terry Fox Run and our Open House on Thursday night.

Information/Reminders/Thank you's

*I am currently coaching basketball and cross country after school, so I just wanted to let you know that if you are unable to pick up your child by 2:25 I will be sending him/her to the office area to wait for you.  That way your child will be in a safe environment and I can meet up with the students to begin practice on time.  Thanks for help and understanding with this.

*We will be sending a notice home on Monday regarding our first skating field trip.  This will be happening on the morning of October 14th (details will be on the form).  Parent drivers will be needed for this field trip.  Thanks so much!

*Our class is spearheading the 'Friends in Need Food bank' Thanksgiving Food Drive.  We began our efforts by making posters and labeling/delivering boxes to the other classes.  Next week students will begin daily announcements to encourage others to donate for this worthy cause.  Non-perishable food items will be collected from Monday to Friday next week.  Thank you in advance for your donations :)

*Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the Terry Fox Run and/or sent in donations.  It was a big success!

*Thank you for joining us for the open house on Thursday night.  If you were unable to make it but would like to come by and see your child's classroom just let me know and we can arrange a time.

*A reminder to send in your earthquake kit if you have not already done so.  I also encourage parents to send a change of clothes in a clearly marked bag that can be kept at school as we will be going out side regularly, rain or shine

*We have decided to postpone our field trip to Save On Foods until January and plan to focus on Bats for the month of October.  We hope to plan a field trip around this theme in November and will notify you once we have secured a date.  Thank you!

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

Sept. 16th, 2016

Hi Everyone!  Welcome to Div.8's classroom blog.  I will be posting new information/updates on this site each week (most often on Friday).  I ask that you please check in every weekend to find out what events will be happening in the school/classroom.  Thanks so much!  I am looking forward to a great year with your children and your parent involvement will be greatly appreciated!
**Please note: You may contact me via our school email:  Amanda_Roberts@sd42.ca  Please do not try to reach me at the email attached to this blog as I do not check it.  Thank you!

Important Dates
The dates that you will need to make note of for September are in the 'Monthly Calendar' section of this blog.  Looking ahead you may also want to take note of dates that we were able to secure for skating: October 14th (am), December 15th (pm) and March 8th (am).  You will receive more detailed information/permission forms via the parent portal closer to the time of each event but I just wanted to give you the 'heads up' in case you would like to join us.  Parent drivers will be needed for these field trips.

The Terry Fox Run has been rescheduled.  It is now on September 27th as Mrs. Watkins was able to secure a special guest to speak to the school on that day.

Reminders
*$55 is due for each student in the primary grades as we have pre-purchased school supplies for everyone this year.  This price also includes the cost of the school planner.
*please complete the walking permission forms for your child (via the parent portal).  Permission needs to be given in order for your child to go 'off site' for the Terry Fox Run.
*please send a pair of indoor running shoes for your child to change into each day, these help to keep our school clean and our gym floor dry (so that it is not slippery)

Thanks so much!

June 2. 2016

Hi Everyone,

It is hard to believe that I am writing the last post of the year.  This year has really flown by.  Today we worked on a page for our memory books about our top 5 favourite moments of the year and we were all amazed by how much we had done!  Here are a few last reminders before we wrap up for the summer:

*our class party will be on Monday, June 27th.  Thanks in advance to these people for bringing in snacks to share:  Camille (fruit plate), Daniel (veggie plate), Emily (cheese/crackers or small sandwiches), Danielle 9 (popcorn or chips) and Brayden (other).  Please still send lunches on that day as our party will be in the afternoon (I am reposting this in case anyone missed it last week).
*please check your homes for any classroom/library books and return
*any donations of gently used books or miscellaneous craft supplies are always welcome
*supplies/work are coming home each day so that the student don't have a heavy bag on the last day
*please do not send planners on Monday, students will no longer be signing out books and the extra space in backpacks will be used to send home supplies
*Tuesday is our last day of school, it will be a 12:00 dismissal
*reports will be sent home by Mrs. Watkins via the parent portal this Saturday, there will be no hard copies distributed by teachers this term.  Please see me if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for a great year, everyone.  I thoroughly enjoyed teaching your children and I hope you all have an amazing summer!  I will look forward to hearing all about your family time when the students return in the fall.

Take Care,

Amanda Roberts

It is FUN Day!!!!!  If you could harness the energy in this building you could solve the world's energy crisis :)

I hope you all have a fantastic father's day and enjoy the gift they made for you.  Here are a few reminders as we head into our last full week of school.

*you do not need to send spelling books/poetry books to school anymore
*please send a plastic bag with your child's name on it so I can begin to send home supplies they won't need anymore
*we had exciting news earlier this week, our class won a contest!  Next Tuesday someone from Meadowtown Cinemas will be bringing in popcorn/drinks and the movie 'Finding Nemo' for the students to enjoy
Please still send lunches on that day as our party will be in the afternoon.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

June 10th, 2016

Hi Everyone,

June continues to fly by and we have a lot more fun/exciting activities yet to come (please see the June calendar on this blog).  Hopefully the weather will turn around and we will be enjoying them in the sunshine! :)

Updates/Reminders

*Monday is 'Mindfulness Day'.  The whole school will be doing a variety of stations with a focus on 'being mindful'.  Students are encouraged to wear their pink/black 'Kindness Counts' t-shirts.
*our last student stars assembly has been rescheduled once again, it will be on June 21st at 8:45
*a big thank you to our parent volunteers who drove/supervised the class yesterday.  We had a fantastic day!
*more volunteers are needed for our 'Fun Day' next Friday.  If you are able to help out for an hour or two please write a note in your child's planner or stop by/phone the office.  Thank you!
*your child is bringing home his/her spelling and poetry and more duotangs today.  These can now stay home as we will not be using them for the remainder of the year
*please ensure that your child brings his/her book bag next week as we will be doing our final change of books
*I only had one parent who was available to join us for a walking field trip to Starbucks (where we will claim our prize) so I am going to be inviting some leadership students to walk with us/supervise as we won 30 free hot chocolates and we are happy to share with them.  I am waiting for confirmation on the date once Mrs. Chatton has met with this group so if you do want to join us please let me know and I will update you once I have more details.

Have a great weekend!

Updates/Reminders/Thank you's

*our field trip is next week.  A letter will be coming home early in the week to confirm drivers and outline what you need to send with your child that day.  The field trip is on rain or shine so it is very important to be dressed for the weather.  A reminder to parent drivers that you need to have a driver's abstract on file in the office.
*a big thank you to Quinn's dad who came in today to talk to us about his job at the Port Authority
*we will be doing a baking activity with the students Tuesday morning (Div.6 and 7).  If you would like to come and volunteer please see me Monday morning or write a note in your child's planner
*thank you to those of you who sent in 'Change for Change' this week
*we are still low on pencils if anyone else has extra's at home they would like to donate

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!
